Sometimes when you can’t see the wood for the trees you need to take a step back from your normal life and rediscover your wild side, however, it doesn’t harm to throw a bit of comfort in!
The Scales Plantation concept came about because of our desire to share the amazing part of the world that myself, my husband and our three boys are lucky enough to farm. Scales Farm is a working beef and sheep farm in the North Lake District. It is situated at roughly 1000 feet above sea level and has spectacular views over to Skiddaw, Bowscale Fell and Carrock. The farmland is surrounded by Greystoke Forest. We are North of the A66, conveniently placed between Keswick and Penrith. Life on an upland farm is not always easy, the work is hard and the hours are long but believe me when I say it is worth it. Our life is fantastic. We take it for granted that our family have a 690 acre back garden and that each evening we can look out over the panoramic North Lake Fells. We can’t remember what a Grey Squirrel looks like because of the abundance of Red Squirrels. We grumble when Roe Deer eat our trees.
On our doorstep lies the best playground in the UK for hikers, sailors, kayakers, climbers, mountain bikers and life’s adventurers or anyone who wants to stand and gape at the landscape in total awe. These are the bits we want you to share with us….. not the long hours and the hard work. We have carefully created our camps in a 13-acre area of woodland surrounded by farmland and breathtaking views. By providing you Shepherds Huts, luxury Safari Tents, bell tents and a cabin we can provide a camp that suit your needs. So when we’re up at 2am with a sheep who is having a difficult lambing, you will be tucked up in your cosy warm beds, sleeping on a full tummy after eating a meal cooked on your wood burning range.
